Machine hall and well at Zagreb botanic garden

Zlatko Karač, Nataša Jakšić

Abstract

The water supply well at Botanic Garden in Zagreb is an example of a well thought-out man-made structure built in natural surroundings. The organization of internal space is simple, with a carefully shaped facade, providing for a full scale perceptive and conceptual experience. Although no longer in use, the water supply well is an example of a fully preserved well field in Zagreb from the pre-World War II period. This is a creative step forward in the opus of architect Denzler and an interesting monument of Modernism of the 1930s
