Durability of fibre-reinforced polymers in concrete structures

Tanja Kalman, Dubravka Bjegović, Vladimir Sigmund

Abstract

The paper starts with assertion that the use of fibre-reinforced polymers for reinforcement of concrete elements is a technique quite possible for corrosion prevention. The use of polymer bars for new or damaged structures requires knowledge of mechanical properties and durability of material subjected to long-term exposure to environmental conditions. An overview is given about current research results and knowledge gained on the behaviour and properties of polymer materials, and also about interaction mechanisms of consequence for durability.
