Concrete in new century

Abstract

The author draws our attention to principal problems currently encountered during use of concrete in construction industry and points to some basic areas of research aimed at eliminating such problems, while also outlining expected development trends and measures to be undertaken to meet the needs of the new century. In this respect, procedures for reliable calculation of durability of reinforced-concrete structures are to be defined, a greater use will be made of more durable high strength concrete and ultra high strength concrete, and more order and higher level of standardization is expected in the field of repair and protection of reinforced-concrete structures.
