Foundation pit protection by shotcrete wall and ground anchors

Ljupko Perić

Abstract

Advantages and shortcomings of traditional foundation pit protection methods are described and compared. The foundation pit protection by shotcrete wall and ground anchors is presented in greater detail. Essential steps needed to prove internal and external stability of this type of geotechnical structures are formulated. It is demonstrated by comparative stress and strain analyses that the relevant slip plane of the entire load bearing structure lies outside of the monolith formed according to the reinforced earth principle.
