Quarries and environment

Abstract

The paper starts with classification of stone considered as raw material, and continues with the presentation of methods for selection quarry locations. Regulations about exploitation of mineral raw materials are presented, and stone extraction procedures are depicted. Negative effects of quarry operation on natural environment are presented, especially with respect to physical deterioration of the surrounding terrain and direct harmful effects of quarry operation. Various standpoints about protection measures to be taken with respect to environmental effects are also presented.
