Determination of strain modulus for carbonate rocks in Croatian flysch

Meho Saša Kovačević, Danijela Jurić-Kaćunić, Radovan Simović

Abstract

It is emphasized that karst is present in more than a half of Croatian areas in which carbonate rocks are affected by karstification. An overview of laboratory and in situ testing of rock mass strain modulus, including an indirect determination of stiffness based on rock mass classification results, is given, Croatian experience in the conduct of classifications aimed at determining the rock mass strain modulus, essential for gaining new knowledge about stiffness of carbonate rocks in Croatian karst, is presented.
