Use of neural networks in the design of wooden structures

Zvonimir Žagar, Goran Janjuš

Abstract

The possibility of use is shown on examples of trained neural networks as applied in the design of glued laminated wooden girders modeled as spaces structures. The described study is motivated by the fact that verifications of bearing capacity and usability based on Eurocode 5 are highly complex, even when "traditional" computer programs are used in order to overcome such situations. The results show that neural networks offer numerous advantages when used in design applications.
