Water demand management

Dragutin Gereš

Abstract

The management of water demand is analyzed. Factors relevant for problem definition are indicated. It is demonstrated that maximum water savings at municipal level can be achieved as follows: up to 40% through use of adequate equipment and devices, and from 10% to 25% by water-meter installation. Water availability increases with the decrease of losses in water system. The significance of balance between water demand and its availability for the sustainability of the water system, is emphasized. An integral water management is also significant for the development of water resources.
