Hydropower plant on the Drava river

Abstract

Basic properties of the Drava river and the suitability of its waters for power generation, are described. Three hydropower plants built in the period from 1970 to 1990 on the Drava river in the territory of Croatia are presented: Varaždin HPP, Čakovec HPP and Dubrava HPP. Properties of these power plants are described and their other uses, in addition to power generation, are outlined. Problems and obstacles encountered during preparation and realization of these projects are presented. Useful experiences gained in the process are also exposed
